Gourds are a vegetable from the squash family, that once dried form hard shelled walls and act similar to wood. The specific species of “bottle/calabash gourds” (Lagenaria Siceraria) has had numerous uses throughout human history all around the world as utensils, tools, birdhouses, stringed musical instruments, rattles, drums, and more. Through the process of carving, gourds can become vessels to hold food, water, and intention.
Vessel: A hollow container used for holding liquids or other contents; a person into whom some quality is infused or received. A vessel is not just something waiting to be filled defined by its negative space, but rather a conduit for energy or transportation. Vessels carry important fluids throughout our bodies, giving us our life force. As humans we are vessels, taking in the world through our senses both seen and unseen. We have the ability to channel ideas, create, express. We have the power to choose what goes into our bodies, both physical food and food for thought. What are you a vessel for? What are you calling in right now?
During this hands-on workshop, we will be cultivating conversation on vessels, and you will learn the process of cutting, carving, and sanding a dried gourd into a finished bowl. You will walk away with one 6” bowl loving grown at Welburn Gourd Farm, that will be food safe and ready to eat out of afterwards.
Class fee is $45 and tickets can be here to secure your spot. An email confirmation will be sent after purchase but no printed ticket is necessary for the workshop. Your name will be added to our participant list. Hope you’ll join us for this special event!
